Haf Power Solutions has delivered the hybrid system for the ferry Malangen

news-details

Haf Power Solutions AS (HPS), a company in the ACEL Group, has delivered the hybrid system for the ferry Malangen, thanks to good cooperation with Fosen Yard in Trøndelag. An important milestone for entering the Norwegian ferry market for the company.

Malangen is a ferry operated on a ferry connection in Troms, by the Norwegian shipping company Torghatten Nord AS. The hybridization was carried out at the shipyard Fosen Yard, a shipyard that has previously produced a number of ferries for Norwegian and foreign shipping companies, several Hurtigruten ships and the luxury apartment ship The World. Haf Power Solutions is one of many Norwegian suppliers to hybridization, and the company is proud to be part of an important step towards the green shift. The actual rebuilding was carried out over a period of 10 weeks, which underlines how efficiently the project has been run.

Solid delivery from the Norwegian market

The assignment from Fosen Yard awards contracts to a number of Norwegian suppliers, which strengthens the Norwegian market within hybridization of vessels.

The suppliers to the hybrid system include Corvus Energy, which supplies battery packs manufactured in Bergen, The Switch with delivery of frequency converters manufactured at Stord, ACEL with switchboard deliveries from Ålesund and Høglund Marine Automation from Tønsberg with upgrading of the automation system. Haf Power Solutions has delivered the actual system integration that ensures Malangen an energy-efficient and reliable power and propulsion system.

It is fantastic to be able to carry out projects consisting of Norwegian-produced equipment and technology, it contributes to national value creation and further development of maritime energy efficiency.
When rebuilding existing vessels, it is important that all aspects of the integration between new and old facilities are carefully reviewed in order to avoid integration challenges between old and new systems. In this project, it has been well taken care of when the implementation of the project was decided to be accelerated by 10 days and that the project managed to deliver on this. The ferry went straight from Fosen shipyard and into service, which shows the strengths of HPS and ACEL towards the yard, where we value direct and frequent communication between all parties involved," says Arve Bredesen, Head of Engineering Fosen Yard.
